Can a redesigned trap stop ‘fatbergs?’
The UK’s Guardian newspaper reports on the “Berglar,” a redesigned trap that features two filters that separate oil and grease from water. It’s the work of engineering student James Seers in the hopes of stopping so-called “fatbergs,” congealed grease and oil blobs that form in sewer pipe.
Seers is looking for funding to take the project further and has been shortlisted for an international James Dyson award, a prize awarded annually by the well-known inventor’s charitable trust.
