OESP announces winner of the first Dan Holohan scholarship
As a tribute to Dan Holohan's support of our industry, the Oil & Energy Services Professionals established a scholarship in his name. When asked what requirements he would like tied with the award, he suggested that it go to those that are teaching the future technicians. Knowing that education is costly, supplies more challenging to acquire and support more difficult to come by, he suggested the teachers of HVAC tell us why they need the money.
Our first winner was awarded $2,500 for his continued education. Kenneth Welker Jr., from Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, shared with us that this support allows him to put his years of field experience into practice by fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. After graduating high school he couldn't pursue his dream but instead went into the workforce. He did though work during the day and attend community college at night and earned his Associate degree.
Now Ken is working towards his bachelor's degree and is enrolled in the Workforce Education Program at Penn State University. He currently works as an adjunct instructor at Pennsylvania College of Technology, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
