Petri Plumbing teams up with Bay Ridge Cares

Petri Plumbing, Brooklyn, N.Y., is joining forces with Bay Ridge Cares to help meet needs in the community.

Bay Ridge Cares is a nonprofit organization that began after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. In the 28 days after the storm, the newly-established Bay Ridge Cares Kitchen served more than 25,000 meals. According to director Karen Tadross, the organization just kept going. And Petri Plumbing was more than willing to jump in and help.

"There's such tremendous need in our community for people to get involved and do whatever it is they can do," said Michael Petri, owner of Petri Heating & Plumbing. "This has become a neighborhood tradition for the past three years, and one we're proud to be a part of."

"It's like a Red Cross type thing in our community," Tadross added. "Wherever the need is, that's where we try to help."

In September, every year, Bay Ridge Cares raises awareness by having "Go Gold" month. This particular area of Brooklyn is festooned with lights, ribbons, and signs. At Petri Plumbing, the dress code changes for all the employees during September. Regular uniforms are switched for gold ones. And a portion of each invoice Petri generates goes to Bay Ridge Cares.

"I encourage everyone to 'Go Gold' in whatever way you can, for all the little warriors who are in the battle of their lives right now," Petri said.
